With Valentine’s Day approaching soon, romance is in the air. Unfortunately, this is the perfect time for Catfishers to attack vulnerable singles innocently searching for love. A Catfisher is someone who creates a false online identity, commonly on social networking and dating sites and apps to establish a relationship solely for financial gain. Watch out for these red flags to help prevent you from being a victim of a romance scam.
- Rushing to redirect communications through email or phone, so you’re off the initial meeting site or app
- Speaking of love and future plans together too soon
- Asking for money
- Making excuses to postpone a meeting typically because they are traveling, live overseas, or are in the military
- Using poor spelling and grammar
