Romance Scams: Learn How To Spot The Signs!

With Valentine’s Day approaching soon, romance is in the air. Unfortunately, this is the perfect time for Catfishers to attack vulnerable singles innocently searching for love. A Catfisher is someone who creates a false online identity, commonly on social networking and dating sites and apps to establish a relationship solely for financial gain. Watch out for these red flags to help prevent you from being a victim of a romance scam.

  • Rushing to redirect communications through email or phone, so you’re off the initial meeting site or app
  • Speaking of love and future plans together too soon
  • Asking for money
  • Making excuses to postpone a meeting typically because they are traveling, live overseas, or are in the military
  • Using poor spelling and grammar

For more information or if you think you have been a victim of a romance scam, call us at 877-MY-LAPFCU (877-695-2732).
